Matt Stribling is stuck spending another vacation with his brilliant, yet scatterbrained archaeologist father. His dad's house is often a mess, so when Matt arrives to find the place turned upside down and his father missing, he's not immediately worried. But a cryptic message and some strange sandy footprints quickly persuade Matt that all is not right. With the help of some unusual family friends, Matt discovers that his father had been searching for an ancient code, one rumored to have brought down the Mayans, and maybe even the fabled civilization of Atlantis. Now in the hands of a madman using high tech computers to decipher it, the code is being readied for new and sinister uses. Matt and his friend, Robin, will traverse the globe, battling terrifying sand creatures and mercenaries alike in their efforts to stop the chaos code from being fully reactivated―and dooming the modern world to a catastrophe not seen since the days of Atlantis.

She managed his diary, organised his schedule, arranged his meals … So once again, despite the urgency of the quest for the Treasure of St John, Matt would be left to his own devices. Matt stepped back, out of the light, afraid he might be seen – that someone might be watching him. When the moon returned, a moment later, the figure

Trust me, there is a way.’ The waiting was the worst. Matt could hear nothing, and he hoped that Robin would have a better idea of what was going on. In the event, he need not have worried. Without warning, the door to his room was yanked open and the skull-headed Mr Klein strode into the room. He stared at Matt through malevolent eyes,

Earth, air, fire and water,’ Robin said. ‘It isn’t coincidence that they were seen as gods, or the gods were given control of them.’ ‘But it’s ridiculous,’ Katherine said. Matt nodded in agreement. ‘I can light a fire, just as anyone can. I can control it, to an extent, feed it stuff to burn. But that isn’t what you mean, is it?’
were slowing – Harper’s guards seemed sluggish. But the attackers, like Matt and Robin, were almost still. Some of them were forcing their way onwards, like they were battling against a hurricane. Others had stopped dead. One of the black-clad attackers who had stopped turned slowly around. He was at the front of the group. Matt could see the concentration and fear etched on his face. His gun was coming up. He screamed – a defiant, throaty sound that might have been ‘No!’ Then he was firing the
