A despicable stock trader is found buried under an avalanche of his own garden rocks, causing fired-from-the force- Richard Sherlock to be yanked off the bowling alley and whisked to the crime scene by his pampered protegee Tiffany Richmond. He must prove murder and stop payment of the twelve-million-dollar Richmond Insurance policy.

Nothing makes sense. Crime scene is a mess. There is no money trail. There are too many motives from too many suspects who have too many alibis. Worst of all Sherlock's bad back is acting up, his ex-wife wants more money and the murder investigation is putting a serious dent in his parenting schedule of his two daughters.

Richard Sherlock hates his job, and may be a reluctant dick, but he is better at finding the WHO in WHODUNIT than anyone else.

door opens. It’s the redhead from the funeral, looking as good as her picture on the internet. “We were worried you weren’t coming.” She steps back from the door to allow me entrance. It is an interesting fear she has; I wonder if it is work related. “Are you Diane?” “I am today.” She leads me down a short but narrow hallway, past a bathroom. I have a difficult time keeping my eyes off her thin, airy chemise, which barely covers her lovely backside. In the main room of the studio apartment,

man is busy earning his ten bucks. “And Alvin was hardly the type of guy who would hand over that much cash, not without at least a little say-so about what’s going on.” Clayton remains silent. “Was he exerting a little too much authority for your taste?” I ask, not expecting an answer. “He was leading you through a steaming pile a crap, wasn’t he?” Clayton gives up the fight. “How did you know?” “You took the bait.” I give him a sympathetic smile. “Son-of-a-bitch.” “Tell me about it.”

nice chat. He is more than helpful. ___ I catch Conway Waddy before he leaves for the day. “Time to untie the purse strings,” I tell him. “About time,” he says. “I need my fee.” “But there is one more person who should be in on the festivities.” I give him a paper with the name, address, and phone number. I also hand over what is left of the four hundred dollars Tiffany withdrew for my escort foray. “All you’ll have to say is that you’re handling Alvin’s estate and there is something here

sex for money,” Peter says. “I didn’t get any money. Didn’t you listen?” Peter carts her off with the rest, all of whom will fill a paddy wagon waiting downstairs. The room is empty, the case closed-at least in my book. Tiffany comes to my side. “That was really super, Mister Sherlock, my dad is going to be thrilled.” “Will I get a bonus?” “I’ll put in a good word for you.” Well, something good happened today. “Come on, Mister Sherlock,” she says with that youthful exuberance, “wasn’t it
