When a trained killer threatens ex-cop Travis Mays—and those Travis loves—he finds a skilled adversary and an unexpected fight. After a high stakes gamble ends in personal tragedy, Travis walks away from years of training and a highly successful law enforcement career. Determined never to look back, he starts a new life and a new career, teaching criminology at the university and building a cabin in the idyllic Idaho Mountains. He hires a beautiful river guide, Jessie White Eagle from the Nez Perce tribe, to guide him safely down the Lochsa. The turbulence of the whitewater, however, is just the beginning of his troubles. Travis finds himself in the crosshairs of a killer—calling himself Creasy—bent on revenge. This fast-paced thriller takes readers on a wild ride down Idaho’s whitewater rivers, along the historic Lolo Trails once tread by the Nez Perce nation, and onto the city streets of California. Tighten your helmet. This ride never stops until the last shot is fired and the final body falls.

Travis reached inside the jacket and flicked on the monitor before he answered the phone. “Travis, here.” McPeters’ voice sounded wary, guarded. “I see you in the truck. I’m watching. Here’s what I want. Drive down the road and park where the Lochsa and Selway meet. I’ll be waiting … and watching” There was a long pause. Travis started to kill the line. McPeters spoke again. “Don’t call anyone. If I see you use that phone, I’m history. And your friends — dead. No one will be able to protect

you — and move out into the clearing where I can see you.” Travis moved to comply, laying his weapons on the ground. “And the dog — I’ll kill him if it gets anywhere near me.” Baptiste stood. He paused, glancing at Travis for a moment. Finally, he shrugged and laid his weapon on the ground. Together, they moved clear of the cabin, standing in the grassland between the dwelling and the stables. Jean had cover and concealment going for her. From her high elevation — and with a gun on Jessie —

Travis approached and saw Jean staring up at the hovering helicopter, the aircraft still bathing them in light. Jean glanced back at him for a moment with a look of hate before she ceased to move. Her lifeless eyes stayed locked on him. Travis signaled a Code-4 at the helicopter crew. The craft veered off to settle in the grassy meadow fifty yards further down the hill. A figure jumped out and dashed toward him. John Steele. “Had a devil of a time tracking you. Frank told us you headed up in

and the agent exchanged looks. “We cross-indexed everyone working with Heard and Kirkpatrick over the years,” Kagan said. “Your name kept popping up.” “You already told me that.” Kagan leaned forward. “I understand you’ve been loaned out to work on a homicide case in Idaho? A Tommy White Eagle?” He frowned, nodding. “And one of the people involved in that investigation is Special Agent Lafata, right?” Travis looked from Kagan to Malloy. “Yeah, Lafata’s involved. What’s this got to do with

Jessie glanced back. “Relax, cowboy. This part is much tamer. Just watch yourself, okay? Follow my lead.” He trailed behind, keeping a few yards behind her until whitewater started frothing ahead. He dragged his paddle in the water to slow his speed, allowing her to pull ahead. A few minutes later, Jessie’s craft became an orange blur as she worked her way between jutting rocks and pounding waves. He watched her fighting the waves until he realized he needed to pay attention to his own craft.
